With no less sadness than the first time we were forced to make this decision, the INW Board of Directors has determined that we will not be able to hold an in-person Critical Northwest in 2021.
While it is true that a vaccination was just approved, we all know Critical is not just a week in July. It is the culmination of months of hard work from many, many people. That work would typically be starting right now. Production would be forming, camps and artists would be making plans, and we would be submitting payment for the site. All this while knowing the majority of the US population shouldn’t expect to be vaccinated until mere weeks before the gates open, and even that assumes absolutely nothing goes wrong with vaccine distribution between now and then.
We were, of course, deeply concerned about encouraging gatherings that would further spread the virus. Our duty as elected officers entrusted with preserving and protecting the future of Ignition Northwest was another factor. The venue is the single largest expense on the CNW budget, Deciding now, before spending that money, allows us to confidently say we have the resources to ensure an in person Critical Northwest 2022 can and will happen.
Until that day, please stay safe. We want you to be there with us.
With love,
Your INW board
