Dear INW Board and community at large,
I am writing to formally resign from the Ignition Northwest Board as well as my position as Treasurer of Ignition Northwest, effective October 15th 2023. This decision has been difficult, but it has become evident that the workload and responsibilities associated with this role are beyond what I can reasonably manage at this point. As Treasurer, I have typically dedicated eight to twelve hours of independent work, along with an additional eight or more hours in scheduled meetings per week. The added responsibility of representing Ignition Northwest in the community means that more often than not social gatherings become discussions centered around organizational matters, which has been taxing on my time, energy, and mental health.
This sustained commitment has regrettably led me to a state of burnout, something I had hoped to avoid. I would kindly ask the community at large, that in the future to please ask a board member if they have the bandwidth to discuss INW business.
In light of my experience and the short tenure of previous Treasurers, I suggest that the incoming Treasurer has a deputy or a support structure in place, and a schedule that would allow them to be available for daytime phone calls as needed. My work scheduleand the nature of my profession made it challenging to fulfill these requirements.
Furthermore, I believe it would be beneficial for the next Treasurer to possess a background in finance, bookkeeping, or accounting, as there is still much work to be done in these areas as there would be a rather steep learning curve for anyone without that background and experience. I want to assure you that I am committed to facilitating a smooth transition. I am willing to provide assistance during this transition period to ensure that my successor has access to all the necessary information and resources that I can provide.
I wish to express my sincere gratitude for the trust and support that the Ignition Northwest Board and community at large has shown me during my tenure as Treasurer. While I am stepping down from this role, I remain dedicated to the organization’s success and well-being. I am confident that with the right support and leadership, Ignition Northwest will continue to thrive and achieve its goals.
Thank you for understanding my decision, and please accept my apologies for any inconvenience my resignation may cause. If there are any specific steps or procedures you would like me to follow during the transition, please let me know, and I will do my best to assist.
Sincerely,
Jessica McComas aka Bacon
